Justice

THE CONFERENCE ON THE WORK OF THE FUTURE

LABOR.A® 2025 focuses on “justice” as a central value of future working environments. A fair society requires democratic negotiation - fair working environments are based on co-determination processes. At the heart of a fair society is the fair organization of work. For everyone. It is worth fighting for. We look forward to contributions to the LABOR.A® 2025 debate!

Submissions are now possible

LABOR.A® aspires to be a platform designed to connect people who shape our complex worlds of work. The programme is developed in collaboration with participants from academia, labour unions, the political sphere, and civil society. Present your issues, share your experiences, join us in debating the work of the future!

Justice: What works?

People shape our complex worlds of work in companies, via platforms, as self-employed workers, in different sectors and at different levels within the company. In municipalities, countries, at the federal level, in Europe and globally. What works? What is urgent? What solutions are on the table? Which aspects of justice do people experience in their professional lives and how?

We look forward to contributions that propose specific approaches on how people stand up for justice in the world of work – even more so in challenging times. Contributions can, for example, explore participatory processes in companies, share research perspectives on justice in the world of work or point out blind spots in the debate.

How do we narrate justice?

In many respects, the narratives of future working environments have darkened: Deindustrialisation instead of socio-ecological transformation? Site closures and evasion of collective bargaining instead of the expansion of good work? Artificial intelligence instead of skilled workers and creators? Disunity instead of dialogue? Nationalism instead of diversity? Experiences of loss instead of promises of progress? Economic crisis instead of investment? Backlash on climate issues and equal opportunities?

We look forward to contributions that challenge such narratives. Who is driving and who is profiting from this uncertainty? Do technological leaps and transformation processes change the meaning of social justice? What experiences, successes and challenges can co-determination and social partners share from their work for justice?

ABOUT LABOR.A®

LABOR.A® is the Hans Böckler Foundation’s hybrid conference on the future of work. The conference will take place for the eighth time on October 1, 2025, again at the Cafe Moskau in Berlin as well as online. The event allows us to reach around 2,000 people in a single day; people who are interested in discussing the issues surrounding the future of work from a range of perspectives.

The goal of LABOR.A® is to engage with and propel forward the current discussion on the transformation of labour, to identify visions of the future, and to connect stakeholders. The programme is developed in collaboration with participants from academia, labour unions, the political sphere, and civil society.

Videos from LABOR.A® 2024

100 speakers and 70 partner organisations took part on 19 September 2024 and, together with us, created more than 30 very different programme items around the motto ‘fill_the_gap’ - identifying current gaps on the path to socio-ecological transformation, solutions and visions for the future.

Our YouTube playlist gives you an insight into the panels, sessions and some impulses.

Audio feature on LABOR.A® 2024

How can we deal with the shift to the right? Where can we find concrete solutions for shaping the socio-ecological transformation? What leverage does co-determination offer? And what does LABOR.A® actually feel like?

The Audiokombinat team visitied the last LABOR.A® and created a feature on the conference.
