Marlen Hobrack (born 1986 in Bautzen) studied literature theory, cultural studies, and media studies, as well as art history, at the Technical University of Dresden. Between her bachelor's and master's studies, she worked for a business consultancy for several years. Since 2016, she has been writing as a columnist, cultural journalist, and literary critic for various newspapers and magazines, including Zeit, Welt, Taz, Spiegel, and Freitag, where her column "Mutti Politics: Why Motherhood is Political" also appears. Her book "Klassenbeste: Wie Herkunft unserer Gesellschaft spaltet" (Best in Class. How Class Origin Divides Our Society) was published by Hanser Berlin in 2022. Her book "100 Seiten Klassismus" (100 Pages of Classism) was published by Reclam in 2024. Marlen Hobrack has been awarded the Jörg Henle Prize for Literary Criticism and the Anna Seghers Prize. She has three children and lives in Leipzig.
