What resources do we use to tackle one task of society or the other? In Germany, the debate had just begun to center on deindustrialisation, recession, and declining prosperity – when suddenly huge sums of state money were announced. We want to explore what the turnaround in fiscal policy means for social justice in future worlds of work. Who will ensure that an economic boost secures good jobs, strengthens democracy, and protects the climate?

Fiscal policy is never just plain investment, it always has distributive effects. In light of the polarising debate, how can we talk about what fair control mechanisms are?

With rising national debt, questions about fair refinancing are also becoming increasingly pressing: Who is paying for the economic upturn? Why is it so difficult to hightlight distributional aspects of economic policymaking?

Panel discussion:
Sylvia Borcherding, Julia Reuschenbach and Björn Böhning

With contributions from:
Anne Brorhilker and Daniel Heidrich
